Occasionally, a lot of people experience sudden throat and chest pain with causes not easily distinguished. In identifying the causes however, between the two, throat pain is more likely to have a narrower range of possible causes.

Most of the common throat pains that individuals feel are related to sore throat which oftentimes arises as a symptom of colds and fevers. Chest pains on the other hand have more complex causes and symptoms, but the most common of which are heart-related problems.

A combination of throat and chest pain can be indicative of different health conditions, but one of the possible health conditions we can identify related to this is the gastroesophageal reflux disease or commonly referred to as GERD.

Throat and Chest PainBefore we can identify the relation between GERD and throat and chest pain, we have to know first the mechanism of the disease.

GERD is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates into the esophagus. This liquid from the stomach contains acid, bile, and pepsin which cause damage in the esophagus. Among the three liquids however, it is believed that the acid is the most harmful.

As the lining of the esophagus gets damaged though, it can cause hurt and inflammation in the patients. And since the esophagus is located near the throat, the pain can also be manifested as throat pain. However, chest pain can also be felt by GERD patients since one of its symptoms is heartburn, which occurs near the chest.

That explains how throat and chest pain can be a manifestation of GERD. But it is important to note that when you experience throat and chest pain, it does not necessarily mean that you already have GERD. There can still be a lot of other possible causes of throat and chest pain which you should consult with your healthcare provider.

Healthy Lifestyle to prevent Throat and Chest pain

Although there are already a lot of technological advancements that has improved medications for a lot of different diseases, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is still one of the best preventions an individual can do to prevent developing different lifestyle-related diseases.
Throat and chest pain, which should be taken seriously for example, may be indicative of a lot of possible heart-related conditions which are very sensitive cases. Heart attacks and cardiac arrests have been one of frequent causes of mortality among individuals almost anywhere in the globe.

It is also worth mentioning that these diseases can be developed by almost anybody, children, adults, and even seniors who have an unhealthy lifestyle; eating food rich in fats. These eating habits while something anybody finds hard to avoid can cause serious health risks in the long run. Thus, one of the best things that we can do to prevent these complications is to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

By a healthy lifestyle we not only mean a balanced diet, but also an active lifestyle that lets your body do some exercise. By maintaining such, complications like those manifested through throat and chest pain can be avoided or reduced.
