Its normal to feel bad and uncomfortable if your throat swells and you got swallowing difficulty. All you think of is having all the means to soothe a sore throat thats been causing you some difficulty such as dryness, itchiness and even talking and breathing difficulty even for a couple of minutes. You just felt a tickling sensation and its now a sore throat.

Sore throat may be caused by allergies and viruses that cause bacterial infection for which you may be given antibiotics by your physician. Dry air inside our home may give us this uncomfortable feeling and dryness that we really sought for immediate relief to soothe a sore throat. On the other hand, viral infection such as cold and flu maybe the cause of such discomfort and all you can do is let the sore throat take its natural exit.

Avoid crunchy food. If you are having difficulty swallowing food, the best thing you can do is munch in soft food so as not to further hurt your throat. Soft and mushy jelly foods partnered with frozen yogurt or ice cream can give temporary numbness and relief.

Go for warm soups. Warm liquid especially soup with finely chopped vegetables is best if you got to soothe a sore throat. Sip on soothing liquids such as unsweetened juice and mild drinks with ginger, honey or lemon that can make one feel a sort of relief.

Gargle with salt. To ease away sore throat, gargling with teaspoon salt dissolved in warm water can give instant relief. The less expensive yet more effective salt can really do wonder.

Have a steam bath. Breathing in some steam can help one soothe a sore throat. Do this by draping a towel over your head or use a paper funnel to breathe in some steam.

Avoid breathing from your mouth. Breathing through the mouth can cause dryness and even aggravate a sore throat. Saline nasal spray or having nasal irrigation can keep you from doing away with the breathing discomfort.

Keep your saliva stimulated. Chewing on sugarless gum or sucking on throat lozenges can keep the saliva stimulated. Moreover, thinking of something so juicy and delicious can give your saliva a boost; believe because its only in the mind!

Keep the air around moistened. Dry air dries out the passageway that makes a sore throat painful. A humidifier or vaporizer or just allowing water to evaporate can provide moist in the air inside a room that can help soothe a sore throat.

Use numbing spray. The anaesthetizing effect of over-the-counter numbing sprays can give one a feeling of relief for just a few squirts into the throat.

You can also try over-the-counter pain relievers in recommended dosage such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen. However, avoid giving them to children below 18 as these may have some harmful effects.

To soothe a sore throat accompanied by a rough, red rash, high fever, tender or swollen lymph nodes in the neck, pus at the back of throat and breathing difficulty, it will be best if the case is referred immediately to a doctor. Likewise, a doctors advice should be sought if a child suffers excessive drooling.
